County Fair Judging July 14-15, 2008

Fair Runs from July 16-20, 2008

Milwaukee County 4-H members will have the opportunity to exhibit project work at the Waukesha County Fair.  The fair is held at the Waukesha County Fairgrounds for directions go to:  www.waukeshacountyfair.com/pages/direx.htm

We are very excited to have this cross-county collaboration with Waukesha County!  I trust that Milwaukee County 4-H members will have a positive experience having their work judged and displayed at the Waukesha County Fair.

Important Deadline Information

To participate in the County Fair:

  • All 4-H enrollment forms shall be submitted to the 4-H Office by April 25. 
  • To qualify for leader admission into the fair enrollment form shall be submitted to the 4-H Office by April 25.
  • Fair Book orders shall be submitted to the 4-H Office by May 28.
  • Fair Entry Registration forms shall be submitted to the 4-H Office by May 28.

General Rules and Regulations

  • All entries must be filed with the Milwaukee County 4-H Office at 932 S. 60th St., West Allis, WI 53214, no later than May 28.
  • Awards will be Face to Face judging and Danish System where indicated.
  • No premium will be paid on exhibits which are not properly registered with the Fair Office before being judged.
  • All exhibits must be completed and in place no later than 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, except in departments where specified differently.
  • Only one exhibit per entry number.
  • All exhibits are released at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.  You must have project claim check to pick-up projects (the bottom part of your entry tag).
  • Exhibitors may enter in the Junior Division.
  • Youth exhibitors that cannot present their exhibits for face to face judging must write a description of the project and what was done to complete it on a 3” x 5” card. The entry and description may be presented to the judge by a parent, sibling, or friend. If the description is not presented with the 2008-2009 Fair Book

Fair Books may be purchased for $5 through the UW-Extension 4-H Office.  Please submit Fair Book order request by May 28. 

Junior Division Guidelines

All exhibitors in the Junior Division departments shall be members of a Milwaukee County 4-H Club.  Maximum age for any youth exhibitor is under 20 years of age on January 1 of the current fair year.

4-H Exhibitors shall be in grades K5-13th grade. 4-H youth in grades K5, 1 and 2 (Cloverbuds) are restricted to exhibiting in Department 217 only.  4-H Cloverbuds are not allowed to exhibit any live animals. To exhibit animals the 4-H youth must be in at least third grade during the current 4-H year. 4-H members may enter the classes they are eligible for by March 1st.

Please read ALL the rules and regulations in the Waukesha County Fair Junior Fair Book.   There were changes and additions made this year, so please check the Fair Book carefully.  Here is some additional information concerning Youth entries.

Junior Fair Entry Forms

  • Fair Registration Forms may be printed from the website at:  http://www.uwex.edu/ces/cty/milwaukee/youth/4h/fair.cfm
  • One entry form per exhibitor.
  • Please give your entry form to club leader and club leader will submit entry forms to the 4-H Office.
  • All entries must be turned in to Angela at the Milwaukee County 4-H Office by May 28.

      No entries will be accepted after that date!

  • Entry forms shall be signed by the exhibitor and parent/guardian or the entry will not be accepted.
  • List entries as the department, class, and entry number from the Fair Premium Book, not from the project description handbook.

Exhibitor Entry Statements

Those exhibitors showing any animals in Departments 201 through 213 must sign and date the Entry Statement on the back of the entry form.

Judging Date Information

A copy of the 2008 Judging Schedule will be posted on the Milwaukee County 4-H website.

  • Project Judging will be on Monday, July 14 and Tuesday, July 15  (see attached judging schedule for more details)
    • Admission is not needed on judging days
  • Projects will need to be picked up at the fair after 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 20
    • You don’t need to pay to enter the fair after 7:00 pm
    • You must have project claim check to pick-up projects (the bottom part of your entry tag).
  • There will be no early project pick-ups; if you are unable to pick up project please make arrangements with another family in your club

Pass Order Form

  • Please submit only one pass order form from each 4-H club to the 4-H Office by May 28.
  • Please submit one check payable to:  Milwaukee County 4-H Leaders Association with pass order form.
  • Passes may be picked up when your club checks their entry tags, at the Milwaukee County 4-H Office (June 23, 24, 25).
  • Please indicate time club leader will come to the 4-H Office to check entry tags and pick-up fair passes.

Pass Information

Youth Exhibitor, 4-H Parent and 4-H Leader Season passes will consist of a wristband that must be worn by the exhibitor, 4-H Parent or 4-H Leader (Only the 4-H Leader Season Pass will include Parking).  Regular Season Passes ($30.00) will consist of five admission passes and one season parking pass.

Passes are as follows:

  • Advance Daily Adult- $6.00             
  • Youth Exhibitor Season Pass - $5.00 (DOES NOT include Parking)
  • Season Parking Pass - $8.00 
  • 4-H Parent Season Pass - $15.00 (DOES NOT include Parking)
  • Daily Parking Fee - $5.00 
  • 4-H Leader Season Pass - $15.00 (Includes Parking)
  • Regular Season Pass - $30.00 (Includes Parking)

The 4-H Leader passes are for active 4-H Leaders.  Names of 4-H Leaders receiving passes must be listed on the back of the Pass Order Form.  Pass order forms are completed by the 4-H Club leader and submitted to Angela by May 28.

The 4-H Parent Season Pass is especially for those 4-H family members that are not leaders or superintendents (judging assistants).

The official opening of the Fair will be Wednesday, July 16th at 3:00 p.m.  Admission and parking fees will be $1.00 each at that time. 

Exhibit Tags and Entry Wristband Pick-up Schedule

  • Clubs will need to schedule a time to come in and sort their club's entry tags.  The times and dates are as follows:
      • Monday, June 23.............................   1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
      • Tuesday, June 24............................ 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
      • Wednesday, June 25...................... 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Club leaders please reserve your time on the club Pass Order Form.

Volunteers Needed

  • To assist with judging on Monday, July 14 and Tuesday, July 15 contact Renee Marek at 8mareks@wi.rr.com  or 414-483-5968.  Judging assistants are called “Superintendents”.
    • This is a good opportunity to learn about the judging process.
  • To help with projects at the Activity Center contact Renee Marek at 8mareks@wi.rr.com  or 414-483-5968.  The activity schedule is below.
  • There will be a Silent Auction at the Youth Activity Center during the course of the fair.  Please contact Renee Marek at 8mareks@wi.rr.com  or 414-483-5968 to help with the silent auction (help is needed throughout the entire fair.

Other Fair Information

  • Admission to the Fair on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 is $1
  • The Fair Association will stop taking admission at 7:00 pm on Sunday July 20, 2008.  If you arrive prior to 7:00 pm you will need an admission pass in order to pick up exhibits.  Please be aware that exhibitors will NOT be able to use a claim check to get into the Fair.

Open Class

  • Will be available at the State Fair Park as part of the Milwaukee Harvest Festival the last weekend in September 2008.
